Amazon.de: New EPR Requirements for Single-Use Plastics Starting 2025
Starting January 1, 2025, a German regulation on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for Single-Use Plastic will come into effect, impacting sellers of products containing single-use plastics on Amazon.de and other online marketplaces. This regulation aims to promote sustainable waste management and reduce plastic pollution.
- The regulation applies to producers, importers, and distributors of single-use plastic products.
- Sellers must comply with EPR requirements and submit registration numbers to Amazon before January 1, 2025.
- Non-compliant listings will be deactivated after the deadline.
What are Single-Use Plastic (SUP) Products?
SUP products are items made wholly or partly of plastic and not designed for multiple use cycles. These include:
- Food containers
- Bags and film packaging made from flexible material
- Beverage containers with a filling volume of up to 3 liters
- Beverage cups (including closures and lids)
- Lightweight plastic carrier bags
- Wet wipes intended for household and personal care
- Balloons intended for consumers
- Tobacco products with filters and filters for tobacco products
Who is Considered a Producer?
You are considered a producer if you:
- Are established in Germany and manufacture, fill, sell, or import SUP products
- Are not established in Germany but sell SUP products directly to German consumers via distance communication
*Self-check if you are a Producer here.
